A short film and video award organized by the Kishiwada Cultural Association in Kishiwada, Osaka.
Designating fiscal 2019 as its “Year of Contemporary Art,” the association shows one video each month for about ten months at the Jisen Center, a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. In January 2020, an art week with contemporary art exhibitions and workshops will be held, where the videos will also be shown.
The theme of the award is “history.” Considering that Kishiwada is a historic castle town, that the venue, the Jisen Center, is an elegant building designed by Setsu Watanabe, and that Japan’s imperial era changes in May, we invited works that evoke the old and the new, time and flow.
In May, the program opens with a work by Tomoko Inagaki, a contemporary artist based in Kishiwada and this year’s art director; from June, videos invited and selected by the Kishiwada Cultural Association will be shown, one each month.
